The applications have been developed in Microsoft .Net Framework with an SQL server database.

The system is modular to allow flexibility for a user to select the applications specific to their requirements and their budget.

Typically just the stock and goods-in applications may be used to solve a problem with the time taken to get goods into stock and the control of stock quantities in a small warehouse.

Conversely, the problem may be to control many thousands of movements over multiple warehouse sites with full traceability and pallet tracking.

The systems can be readily customised to provide user specific terms for applications and data input fields.

The warehouse module allows for the movement of stock and control of stock levels. The key elements to this module are:

  • Pallet location down to the individual Rack location.
  • Warehouse transfers including tracking of individual pallets on and off transport
  • Pallet location and movement within the warehouse (Real Time).
  • Delivery of pallet’s to WIP and removal from stock.
  • Re-printing of damaged SSCC labels.
  • Manual discard of damaged or re-packed pallet’s.
  • Stock levels maintained at a product per warehouse level.
  • Stock levels calculated down to the number cases on each pallet.
  • Full visibility of each pallet movement for audit purposes.

The Label Production module allows for the production of GTIN compliant labels for all stock items in the PM Warehouse system.The label production module also controls the issue of unique SSCC Pallet ID’s and also the allocation of unique batch number. The key elements of the module are:

  • Production of GTIN compliant labels unique to each individual stock item i.e. allows for branded label designs for Tesco,Sainsbury or CO-OP etc definable by the end user.
  • Each label production generates a unique SSCC logged in the database ready for tracking.
  • The ability to prompt for the number of cases and weight for each pallet. This information can then be printed on each label and is stored at the pallet level within the system.

The transport module allows for the picking and routing of orders by the transport department. The key elements are:

  • Access to Multiple Opera companies that feed into one transport and logistics routine.
  • Ability to filter out orders that are despatched via a third party distribution company i.e. Bougie
  • Pallet and case quantities of orders displayed, allowing for optimum order picking for delivery relevant to the size of vehicle available.
  • Colour representation of due, overdue and forward orders, displayed real time from Opera II.
  • Real time reporting of current deliveries.Allowing for any non-loaded deliveries to be picked up early and placed onto an alternative picking list.
  • Pallet type selection for load i.e. Chap Blue Pallet’s.
  • Full order detail allowing for selection of part orders for shipment.

PM IT Systems have developed a module that sits on any mobile device running Microsoft mobile i.e. the Intermec PDA range. The key element to these is that they provide the real time movements of the pallets.

In most warehousing environments each loader/fork lifttruck driver will be equipped with one of these. The Advantages are:

  • Individual user login (For movement tracking and audit purposes)
  • Stock Location.
  • Receiving of stock into the warehouse.
  • Movement of stock into WIP.
  • Selection of pallets for a pre-defined load set-up by the transport module.
  • Selection of pallets for ad-hoc loading 
  • Pallet stock taking.

The stock taking module allows for either a full warehouse stock take to be performed or for a perpetual stock take procedure to be set up. The stock taking module allows for the confirmation of pallet id’s in the warehouse, highlighting any differences in the count, and displaying the SSCC’s that require action.

The key features for this module are that all stock or one product in a warehouse can be selected, selection of one location or part location in a warehouse, report Showing SSCC identifiers picked up by the snap shot but not counted, report Showing Counted SSCC identifiers that were not included in the snap shot.

  • Production of warehouse transfer documentation.
  • Delivery notes for end user.  Including individual SSCC listing of eachpallet on each set of paper work.
  • Distribution warehouse delivery paperwork.
  • Electronic notification of deliveries to the customer if required by XML file.

What Is RFID Technology?

RFID stands for Radio Frequency Identification. The main purpose of using RFID chips in a logistical scenario is for tracking and identification. The technology uses radio waves in order to communicate data wirelessly, either over a short distance using magnetic fields, or over long distances when connected to a power source. Unlike barcodes, RFID chips don't need to be within the line of sight of the reader, this means that they can be embedded into a tracked object such as a pallet.

By scanning the goods as they enter each stage, RFID chips provide the ability to track goods as they go through manufacturing processes and even through delivery networks. This provides more organisation and control over internal processes and also provides better traceability of goods. This system can be achieved with embedded RFID chips that pass through checkpoints, which then tell an internal system that they have entered the next stage of development or transportation.
